My parents introduced me to this institution back when I was still in grade 3. That time, I met my first batch of friends here in Baguio city, my first crush, my first set of teachers and a lot more. At first I was very nervous because I am new in this society but then I realized that it is just like my second home. The only difference is you have a lot of parents and siblings. In my second home, you will learn to interact and socialize with different people, hear their stories and know them more. In elementary, everything is just like a joke. You hang out with friends and do pranks but when it comes to high school everything becomes serious. Of course it will not happen in just in an overnight, the first year is the year of adjustment. Especially for us science students, sometimes there is less time for us to have fun and enjoy our days in high school but nevertheless it is good being in the science section because we have a lot of privileges when comes to school activities like the intramurals, quiz bees, and a lot more programs. Saint Louis University Laboratory High School became my second home after I graduated from elementary. And soon after 2 years I will graduate from high school and go to college which would be my second home in the near future but as I said there are still 2 years in high school for me to enjoy and discover myself. SLU-LHS is my second home because I mostly spend my time in school-around 10 hours (wow now that is what you call studying real hard). In high school, you will also meet a bunch of new friends, a new set of funny and scary teachers and a lot more. Also, you will learn that there are different groups or kinds of students. There is the “emo” students who like to be alone always and liked the color black. Another is the “rebel or the gangsters” who like to cause chaos and fights inside and outside the school campus. Also there is the “smart” guys who always talks about science and math (they are the subjects that is usually talked about by them). The “nice guys” is another group which consists of students who are very obsessed with rules and regulations of their parents, teachers and even of their fellow students. Another one is the “athletes” which is very self-explanatory. There is also the “popular” guys but they can only be considered one if they made an achievement in their own group. For example, if you are from the rebels you will only be known when you beat up a leader of another rebel group from other schools. But I am not saying that you should do this (this is not recommended for you). There are also other minor groups that exist but I do not have enough time to mention them all. These groups also existed not only in our school but also in other schools. We have come down to the end of this blog. I hope you enjoyed reading this.

So what is SLU?
SLU stands for Saint Louis University. It has three divisions (lol division ... I am not sure what is the proper term for this). The first is the Saint Louis University Laboratory Elementary School, second is the Saint Louis University Laboratory High School, and last but not the least is the Saint Louis University (the main). And to make this blog different, this blog will only contain the history and some additional information about the SLU.
Brief History |
In 1907, the CICM Missionaries arrived in the Philippines, mandated by the Holy See to evangelize the northern part of the country. Pretty soon, it became apparent that Baguio, then a small mountain village resort in the province of Benguet, around two hundred and fifty kilometers north of Manila, will be pivotal for the region. With an elevation of at least 1,500 meters above sea level, Baguio is a natural gateway to and from the Cordillera mountain range, which traverses the Mountain Provinces (Montañosa), the home of numerous indigenous tribes. Thus it was that in 1911, Rev Fr Séraphin Devesse, CICM, founded a one-room elementary school in Baguio for ten local boys. From these humble origins, Saint Louis School began . In 1915, the intermediate grades and a trade school were started under the guidance of Florimond Carlu. In 1921, the high school was inaugurated. In 1952, college-level courses in the Liberal Arts and Commerce were offered, and Saint Louis College had its first Rector. Other courses and further developments soon followed, under the guidance of the following Rectors/Presidents-
In 1955, the graduate-level programs of Saint Louis College were granted recognition, but the real turning point came on 13 May 1963, when Saint Louis College was conferred University status by the Philippine Government. From the one-room Saint Louis School for ten boys in 1911, Saint Louis University has grown to a four campus University with more than thirty buildings catering to more than thirty thousand students. |

Now that we are done talking about the history, I will just show you a sneak peek of the elementary school.
And then the high school:
And last but not the least---the main,
Sapientia aedificat, that is, "wisdom builds" or "knowledge edifies," is the motto of Saint Louis University. Impelled by this profound human truth, SLU has faithfully carried out its avowed educational mission since its foundation in 1911. As a Christian institution of higher learning, SLU has, through the years, formed and shaped young people who are imbued with Christian spirit and are competent, creative and socially involved.
At present, Saint Louis University has nine colleges offering graduate and undergraduate programs in pursuit of this mission. Effective School Year 2010-2011, the different colleges will be known as Schools. They are:
- School of Accountancy and Business Management - SABM
(College of Accountancy and Commerce) - School of Computing and Information Sciences - SCIS
(College of Information and Computing Sciences) - School of Engineering and Architecture - SEA
(College of Engineering and Architecture) - School of Humanities - SoH
(College of Human Sciences) - School of Law - SoL
(College of Law) - School of Medicine - SoM
(College of Medicine) - School of Natural Sciences - SNS
(College of Natural Sciences) - School of Nursing - SoN
(College of Nursing) - School of Teacher Education - STE
(College of Education)
The programs offered by the different schools are accredited by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU). With their exemplary performance, the following schools were given distinctive awards by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED):
- School of Teacher Education
Center of Excellence for Teacher Education - School of of Nursing
Center of Development for Nursing Education - School of Engineering and Architecture
Center of Development for Engineering Education (Chemical Engineering & Electronic Engineering) - School of Computing and Information Sciences
Center of Development for Information Technology
But wait let us talk also about the other schools. There are other SLU schools in the country. There is the Saint Louis College of La Union.
Another one is the St. Louis College of Tuguegarao.
There is also the Saint Louis College Valenzuela.
And St. Louis School of Mandaue,
And last one is the Saint Louis School (Solano, Nueva Vizcaya).(I am not really sure if this are all of them)

If my calculations are correct (which I am not very sure of), the SLU centennial will be celebrated on December 2, 2010 (exactly 56 days to go starting today). And what is a birthday without a celebration right? That is why here is a list of events to be expected in line with the SLU centennial:

Also, of course, a celebration is not complete without gifts. And my gift to SLU is myself because I know when I become successful some day, I would be proud to say that I am a Louisian and SLU would be proud that they had me as one of their students. As a student of such a wonderful school, I could say that they give the best education system that a student can dream of. They have great facilities including the improved basketball court, volleyball court, tennis court, swimming pool, gymnasium, libraries, clinics, chapels and a lot more. It also has a ton of extracurricular activities set for the whole school year. For example, the Intramurals (which is held every year) is an exciting activity which comprises of a cheer dance competition, the cheering competition proper and some Olympic games. Another one is the quiz bees in different categories. There is also the camping event for the boy scouts and girl scouts. Also, there are clean up drives for the different clubs. Another example is the Family Day (I think this one is self explanatory) and many more. One of the newest is the Talent Festival wherein the students are encouraged to join to show their talents and win great prizes. One of my gifts also to SLU is the good memories that I have kept through the years. *uhh* I cannot think of better gifts than these so I will count this blog done. For all of you who read this blog, thank you for subscribing.
Attention to the readers of this blog:
There is a slight endorsement of our university in this particular blog. Though this happened I will assure you that you do not need to change your school just because I said things that encourage you to do such transferring of schools. I am just merely describing the said university and not provoking anyone to drop from their own school and transfer to another. Thank you and God bless!
